On 28 June 2024, the signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Adjudicators (HKICAdj) and the South China International Arbitration Center (Hong Kong) (SCIAHK) took place in Hong Kong. Mr. Huen Wong, Executive Chairman of SCIAHK, and Ir. Albert Yeu, Chairman of HKICAdj, spoke and jointly signed the MOU on behalf of the respective institutions. More than 60 professionals from Hong Kong's legal and business sectors attended the event and witnessed the signing ceremony.
According to the MOU, SCIAHK and HKICAdj will establish a strategic partnership by leveraging the respective advantages and resource-sharing, aiming to deepen exchanges and cooperation of international arbitration in the construction field. SCIAHK and HKICAdj will collaborate to serve international and domestic users with quality, readiness and accessibility to promote Hong Kong as an ideal venue for dispute resolution.
Following the signing ceremony of the MOU, a thematic seminar on dispute resolution titled "Get Prepared with Updates in Security of Payment" was held by HKICAdj with SCIAHK acted as the supporting organization. Prof. Teresa Cheng SC, former Secretary for Justice of the HKSAR, and Prof. Leung Hing Fung from HKU delivered their keynote speeches. In addition, experts were invited to discuss and share insights on updates of the enactment of the "Security of Payment" regime in Hong Kong, opportunities for dispute resolution in construction adjudication and practical experiences of adjudication.
