Family disputes, unlike commercial disputes, can be very emotional. Parties may have grievances, interests and needs that may not be adequately addressed in court settings or through court remedies. When the marriage is cross-boundary, the divorce and family proceedings could get further complicated due to the issues of locality and different jurisdictions involved. The commencement of the Mainland Judgments in Matrimonial and Family Cases (Reciprocal Recognition and Enforcement) Ordinance (“Ordinance”) may carry important implications for the landscape of cross-boundary matrimonial/family proceedings as well as related mediation processes. In this seminar, prominent speakers from Hong Kong and the Mainland would share their insights on how the Ordinance may affect mediation in cross-boundary matrimonial and family proceedings, how mediation could help in resolving cross-boundary family disputes or divorces amicably and efficiently, as well as the mediation skills to be used to address the concerns of different parties and eventually come up with solutions that could satisfy the needs of the parties concerned.
