Dr. YUAN Gujie, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee Led a Delegation Visited SCIAHK

     On 6 September 2023, Dr. YUAN Gujie, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee led a delegation and visited the South China International Arbitration Center HK (SCIAHK). Dr. YUAN and her delegation met with Mr. Anthony NEOH, Chairman of the Board of SCIAHK; Dr. LIU Xiaochun and Mr. Huen WONG, both Executive Chairman of SCIAHK; Dr. Elsie LEUNG and Prof. Peter MALANCZUK, Members of the SCIAHK Board; Mr. LIU Chunhua, Head of the Legal Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and SCIA Council Member also attended the symposium.

     Dr. YUAN fully affirmed that SCIAHK and SCIA were enriching the new practice of  “one country, two systems” and promoted the construction of the Guandong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with a view to actively explore the connection of rules and mechanisms in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Dr. YUAN pointed out that SCIAHK and SCIA’s new business layout  of “Twin Cities, Two Centers” maximized “two jurisdictions, two places for arbitration, two institutions, and two sets of rules.” This distinct advantage of connection played a positive role in promoting collaborative innovation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao on resolving commercial disputes between Chinese and foreign enterprises, as well as providing valuable experience in promoting the Chinese-style modernization  of international arbitration. Dr. YUAN hoped that SCIAHK and SCIA would continue to use “Hong Kong + Shenzhen” cross-jurisdictional “Twin Cities, Two Centers” as an “engine platform” in encouraging the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to further improve international legal services and dispute resolution mechanisms with a view to jointly enhance the market-oriented, legalized and internationalized business environment and serve the high-quality development of the economy and international arbitration in the new development pattern at a higher level. 

     Mr. CHEN Xudong, Director-General of the Department of Justice of Guangdong Province, Mr. YU Xinguo, Deputy Secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee in Guangdong Province, Mr. WANG Guanghui and Mr. YANG Donglai, Deputy Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee Department of Justice, Mr. HUANG Guohui, Deputy Director-General of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, Ms. JIANG Xiaowen, Director of the Shenzhen Municipal Justice Bureau and SCIA Council Member, attended the symposium.
